Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its result. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained as needed to respond. We keep that communication within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page can cause the server to receive routine technical and usage details:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device category and operating system
- Browser name and version
- Approximate visit duration for each page
- The referring website, when available
- The Internet Protocol address used by the device
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved by a browser. They and analytics services help us understand aggregate traffic, popular pages, and where visits end. Browser controls can block or remove cookies, although some functions may then work differently.

- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Routing a search request to the selected outside provider

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Cumberland County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its material identifies official custodians such as the Cumberland County Sheriff, the Clerk of Superior Court, NCSBI CIIS, NCDAC, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. This resource is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not turned into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes displayed on some pages. Information submitted through a box is handled under that provider's privacy policy. The provider, not us, determines its storage and disclosure practices. Read those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Cumberland sheriff, North Carolina eCourts, NCSBI, NCDAC, registry pages, legal resources, or commercial search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's own privacy terms apply. Review them before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their systems to measure activity across websites and choose targeted advertisements. We do not operate that cross-site tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to limited categories of recipients:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Advertising networks serving material on the pages
- Search providers receiving a query submitted to their tool
- A government or law-enforcement body when valid legal process requires disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect information within our control. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so we cannot promise that an unauthorized access or breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that such information was submitted, we will take reasonable steps to remove it.
Your Data Rights
Rights over personal data depend on the law that applies to the visitor and the service. The North Carolina Public Records Law, Chapter 132, governs access to qualifying government records. It does not turn this privately operated resource into a public agency or make private visitor data a county record. Subject to applicable law and verification, a visitor may:
- Request access to personal data held about that visitor
- Ask that inaccurate visitor information be corrected
- Request deletion where retention is not required
- Object to or opt out of certain processing where the law provides that choice
